Sumter, SC

The Walbridge | Mashburn Joint Venture served as general contractor on the new Continental Tire Manufacturing Plant in Sumter, S.C. The new plant, which spans 1 million SF and 330 acres, is comprised of multiple buildings. For the job, the team constructed buildings on a Greenfield site that houses Continental’s central media, raw material warehouse, mixing operations, plant production and annex offices, a finished goods warehouse and conveyor, powerhouse, fire pumphouse and storage tanks, scrap storage building, canteen, and two security guardhouses. The team also installed all of the buildings’ mechanical and electrical utility equipment systems and managed installation of all site infrastructure.

The tires produced at the Sumter plant will help meet the increasing demand for Continental and General brand tires from both aftermarket business and car manufacturers. The first phase of the plant will reach a production capacity of approximately five million units per year in 2017, according to Continental Tire.
