Mashburn Construction announces completion of tallest tilt-up building in South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, S.C.— In just a year, a new medical office building was constructed on the Grand Strand Medical Center campus. Mashburn Construction is pleased to announce the completion of the first 5-story tilt up building in South Carolina. Along with Mashburn, HCP, Inc. and its partner, Grand Strand Medical Center (HCA) the building’s official opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Mashburn is proud to congratulate the Grand Strand Health team and HCA on the official opening of their new Medical Office Building, says Richard Kinard, VP of the Coastal Division for Mashburn Construction. “The building’s noteworthy method of construction has allowed our team to provide an innovative, versatile space ahead of schedule and under budget for practitioners to provide critical health services to the community.”

Grand Strand Health’s Medical Office Building opened on January 1, 2020.
The 95,000 square-foot, 5-story building is located at 920 Doug White Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572. The goal is to provide better access for patients needing physician care. Services include physician offices for heart and vascular care, spine and neuro care, general surgery, pediatric specialists, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, and primary care.

"Our new Medical Office Building provides us the opportunity to continue to expand and grow our services.
It’s important to us to help keep residents of the Grand Strand close to home for any and all care they may need,” states Mark Sims, CEO of Grand Strand Health. “This facility allows for more convenient access for our community, for our physicians to be closer to the hospital, and bridges the gap for Residents in our Graduate Medical Education programs to gain more experience in the physician practice setting.”

A crane weighing 700,000 lbs. was used to install each panel weighing approximately 160,000 lbs. each. Each concrete wall panel was formed and poured flat on the ground and gets “tilted” in place and supported with an internal structural steel frame. The Mashburn team tilted-up (36) 85-foot-tall panels to construct the 5-story building.

Mashburn Construction continues to strive to be one of the top healthcare contractors across the state; encompassing up to 50% of their total volume.
