Aloft Hotel
Columbia, SC
The Owners chose Mashburn to complete this new, 70,000 square foot facility. The hotel offers 107 guest rooms and the public spaces include reception, buffet-style food area, communication stations, exercise area, meeting spaces and a bar. A double-sided fire place serves the bar area and the outside seating area. Also included are support spaces for the function of the facility.
Portions of the building were structural columns and beams with concrete on metal deck at the lower levels. The balance is structural metal stud walls with concrete poured on the metal deck. The highest architectural feature is composed of a structural steel frame. The façade is a brick and Arriscraft stone with accents of Nichiha Panels at the entries. The façade and main entrances at the corner of Lincoln and Lady streets are made of architectural metal panels. Windows provide views of the city at the upper levels and by the storefront walls at the lower level.
Specific challenges of the project included the limited site and mitigating impacts to neighboring businesses. Due to the limited footprint, deliveries were carefully scheduled and trades carpooled. Additionally, our team made significant efforts to minimize the impact to the trees in the public green spaces.
