Barringer Building

Florence, SC

A 10,300 square foot upfit to the historic, downtown building adjacent to Hotel Florence, a previously completed Mashburn project. The renovated space features retail spaces on the first floor and offices on the second floor. Many existing elements were incorporated into the building construction to preserve the building’s historic features.

Building finishes include refinished wood floors and ceilings, exposed structural elements, windows to match the historic profiles, and a refinished monumental staircase. New mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were added to the existing structure to comply with building codes.

Structural modifications of the existing framing were exposed and incorporated into the building’s architecture. An existing historic front door was renovated and re-glazed for the main retail entry. Additionally, a new, modern state-of-the-art electric elevator was installed for access to upper floor.

This project was honored with the Excellence in Adaptive Re-Use Award by the Historic Columbia Foundation.
