Eastminster Presbyterian Church
Columbia, SC
This 30,000 square foot historic renovation was designed to upgrade the facility while respecting and preserving the existing architectural character. The project included extensive sanctuary improvements; restroom and vestibule renovation; elevator addition; mechanical upgrades; electrical upgrades; exterior covered entry and porte-cochere.
The strategic placement of the new elevator provides accessibility to all levels of the original structure and to an outdoor connector that links the rest of the campus. The dilapidated basement was transformed into a new choir room. All stained glass and wooden pews were taken off site for refurbishment and then carefully reinstalled.
Sanctuary improvements include: refurbished pews; new plaster and paint; new flooring; renovated chancel; paint stripping at Nave windows; and protection of sensitive materials/ equipment such as stained glass & pipe.
This project was honored with the Historic Preservation Award for Excellence in Preservation/Restoration by the Historic Columbia Foundation.
