Freshfields Village
Kiawah Island, SC
This mixed-use commercial center includes office, retail, and restaurant space with the potential to add more users. Zoning for the overall project called for up to 450,000 square feet of commercial space. Phase I of this design-build project included 175,000 square feet of retail and office space. The owners wanted to demonstrate an architectural approach that reflected how a true town center would grow over time.
Each building has a distinct character and design palate. A wide selection of exterior elements were utilized including wood, brick, stucco, and shingle styles to create a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly environment.
The entire site is 65 acres and is interspersed with over 500 large trees, including palm trees, transplanted from the surrounding Coastal Islands. The site was elevated over 12 feet in order to meet flood stage requirements.
