MUSC Emergency and Urgent Care

Columbia, SC

The project consisted of the new construction of a 13,500-square-foot, freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) and Urgent Care Clinic in Columbia, South Carolina. The one-story facility was designed to provide comprehensive emergency and urgent care services, with specialized treatment spaces and advanced diagnostic capabilities to serve the surrounding community.

Scope included nine treatment rooms with specialized accommodations for isolation, bariatric care, and major exam procedures; five fast-track rooms supporting urgent care operations; on-site CT scanning and radiography; medical gas outlets in each exam room; ICU package doors; and integrated low-voltage systems for access control, security, and nurse call functionality. The structural system consisted of structural steel and engineered metal studs, with custom engineering required for select exterior wall framing. Exterior finishes included EIFS, ACM panels at the main entrance, flush-profile metal panels, and a radius storefront with automatic entry doors.

Through careful coordination of the facility’s specialized healthcare systems, structural requirements, and architectural finishes, Mashburn Construction successfully delivered a modern, durable facility that supports efficient patient care and provides the Columbia community with expanded access to emergency and urgent care services.
