Mashburn completed an office upfit on the third floor of a historic building on Broad Street. The building, which was constructed in 1962, had served as a bank for First Federal Savings and Loan. Our team had to completed the project while the bank below continued with normal operations. This project also had challenges during the interior demolition as well as scheduling for materials delivery due to it being in the heart of Charleston’s historic district. High-end finishes were used throughout including, custom cherry millwork and cabinetry, custom wood storefront, a large rotunda with a custom chandelier and pendant lighting, a lobby area, olde savannah black walnut 6” wood floor, marble bathroom tile and sub zero appliances. Several owner/ architect initiated design changes occurred one month after mobilization, but our field team communicated with the architect daily during the process to mitigate any potential rework caused by the changes. In addition, the client had a firm move-in date, which we were able to hit despite owner changes and COVID-19 related delays. Due to COVID-19, nearly 200 lights were suspended indefinitely one week before scheduled delivery from China. However, we were able to mitigate impacts by assisting the design team in procuring similar products from a manufacturer in Canada, which at the time was not as affected by COVID-19.
