The Loutrel
Charleston, SC
The Loutrel is an upscale, 50-room, 4-story boutique hotel with bar and food service capabilities. The building was designed to be a contemporary hotel with nods to the Renaissance period that was occurring in Charleston during the early 20th century. The hotel featured luxurious guest amenities including a lounge, “European-style breakfast,” fitness center and clubroom. Guests were provided access to locally-sourced products such as bathroom amenities, snacks and magazines during their stay. There were six suites included in the 50-room hotel, with select rooms having private balconies for the guests to enjoy. On the fourth floor, half of the space was guest rooms while the other half boasted an open-air rooftop terrace with views of the St. Philip’s Church steeple and the Ravenel Bridge.
The building featured an all brick exterior facade, concrete podium structure, brace frame steel and load-bearing light gauge metal studs with composite decking. The project was nestled on a tight-site in the Historic District of downtown Charleston. Mashburn built to the property line, leaving little to no laydown area during construction. The scope of work included storefront glass, aluminum windows and stacked parking with an automated lift.
