The Shepherd Hotel
Clemson, SC
This project was a ground-up construction of a 67-room, seven-story boutique hotel and mixed-use building in downtown Clemson. The 50,738 SF hotel includes a high-end lobby, restaurant, terrace bar and rooftop event space, and luxury guestrooms. Mashburn was selected to construct the Shepherd Hotel due to the general contractors’ ability to work within and around a complicated site. The project had no area for laydown and equipment. Additionally, the building was located only eight inches from the property line.
The spiral stairwell was installed as a centerpiece of the entire hotel. Due to the close proximity of the project to existing structures, the Mashburn team worked closely with the community and merchants surrounding the downtown property to communicate construction plans and schedule.
The Shepherd Hotel sponsors the Clemson LIFE program by offering collective employment to their students and alumni. The hotel sought to continue fostering the caring, family culture embraced by the university and the city. These special people, with a special gift of hospitality, represented most of the employee base. This project also included a restaurant where guests could sit down and enjoy a meal, or choose from any of the restaurant’s grab-and-go options.
