Mashburn completes highly anticipated downtown brewery
Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Mashburn Construction congratulates Grand Strand Brewing Company on their official opening in downtown Myrtle Beach. The new brewery had its official ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 26, 2021 with the City of Myrtle Beach. The brewery is part of a larger revitalization effort being led by the city within the Arts and Innovation District
At the end of last year, Mashburn completed the redevelopment of the former Edwards Five & Dime Store. The 13,000 SF, historic building was originally constructed in 1952 and had been vacant for more than 10 years prior to becoming the official home of Grand Strand Brewing Company. The previously abandoned building required extensive renovations before it was ready to serve as a fully functioning brewery. Grand Strand Brewing Company features eight large brewing vats alongside several additional large pieces of brewing equipment and boasts extensive woodwork for the bar top. Above the brewery, on the second floor, Mashburn transformed a gloomy, empty shell into 10 short-term rental apartments. To complete the upstairs renovation, the Mashburn team installed significant mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as an elevator to allow additional access to the second floor. The apartments are currently available for rent on Airbnb.
Mashburn collaborated with architectural firm Synchronicity, to complete Grand Strand Brewing Company, which is the first major redevelopment in the downtown area for more than 20 years. The newly renovated plaza will work to draw new life and energy to an area that had been largely forgotten. Mashburn has also played an integral role in other projects within and around Nance Plaza including the construction of their Myrtle Beach office next to the brewery.
“Mashburn has been involved in revitalization efforts of Myrtle Beach for more than two decades. We are passionate about unique downtown projects, such as Grand Strand Brewing Company, and are excited to be neighbors to innovative and impactful businesses,” says Lee Mashburn, President of Mashburn Construction.
Mashburn is continuing its efforts to help with the revitalization of Nance Plaza with the redevelopment of six historical and non-historical buildings along 9th Ave. The firm is collaborating with the City of Myrtle Beach and LS3P Associates to restore to their appropriate, historical time periods. Mashburn began work on the project in February of 2021 and substantial completion is expected for this fall.
