Two Mashburn Construction projects receive award
Columbia, S.C. — Mashburn Construction congratulates two recently completed projects for receiving the Golden Nail Award. The projects, Market on Main and Holiday Inn - Downtown, were formally recognized during the Columbia Chamber’s Annual Impact Awards. The program was hosted virtually on Thursday, February 18, showcasing award winners in various categories.
The Golden Nail Award is given annually to businesses and property owners which exhibit exemplary contributions to the physical character of the greater Midlands area through cosmetic or commercial means during the previous year. This includes restoring a façade, historical buildings or repurposing blighted spaces.
Mashburn worked with the owners of Lexington Hospitality to convert a former bank building into a modern downtown hotel. The Holiday Inn - Downtown, located at 1233 Washington St. now stands as a 10-story hotel with 90 rooms, meeting space, a fitness center, E-bar and restaurant with a bar. The building, originally built in 1954, required some creative design solutions to provide guests with three different room options. Mashburn was able to keep some of the original elements of the building such as the mail shoot and marble wall tiles. The project was completed in January 2020.
The second project receiving a Golden Nail Award is Market on Main. Performed out of the company’s Upfit Division, the farm-to-table style restaurant and market located at 1320 Main St., was completed in May 2020. The restaurant was transformed from a vacant Zoe’s Kitchen on the ground floor of the Meridian Building. Mashburn renovated the space to accommodate for the needs of this unique dining and market experience while also expanding its existing footprint through the addition of a 1,200 SF patio.
“The ownership of both Holiday Inn - Downtown and Market on Main are like-minded in that they are passionate about investing in their community and we are appreciative of the Columbia Chamber recognizing their significant impact. We are excited to congratulate all the recipients of this year’s Impact Awards and look forward to continuing to contribute to the future revitalization of downtown Columbia.” says President, Lee Mashburn.
Mashburn Construction is continuing their work of “building better communities” with more downtown projects on the horizon for Columbia and their three other offices throughout the state. The company recently completed a new office and an expansion of an existing office in the two areas of their Coastal Division and will celebrate 45 years in business this year.
